Lutze VSD Cables

Have you ever thought about the effects of using just standard cabling for your VSD applications?

Cables are often an afterthought in the planning process but represents actually a very important component in the whole application.

Variable Frequency Drive applications can cause unique electrical issues that are unlike other standard power transmission in machine applications. There are higher demands on the cable connecting the motor to the drive.  Standard multi-conductor cables rated for 500V will most likely not meet the requirements of VSD applications, and can cause operating malfunctions and early failures.

Advantages of Lutze Drive Cables

  • Cable is 10-15% lighter than other products – this helps with cable installation.
  • Smaller bend radius means the cable is easier to route and terminate.
  • Low capacitance of the cable aids compliance with EN 50598 as cable losses are reduced.
  • Low capacitance, concentric earth system and effective shielding allows longer
    cable runs in drive applications.
  • Voltages withstand gives protection against transients produced by VSDs
  • Low screen DC resistance affording protection agianst AC harmonics.

So for any of your VSD applications, look no further than Lutze, the cable specialists who can offer you the correct cables for the right applications! For further information please click here…

Lutze cables keeping Eden Project’s quarantined plants under control.

pic

Photography of the Eden Biomes by Tamsyn Williams

At the Eden Project, as well as maintaining all the mechanical plant on site, there is also the need to maintain the living plant displays in the biomes and surrounding areas. This is done mostly by growing new specimens from seed or cuttings, and sometimes buying in new plant material. Every seed/plant which comes to our nursery site is inspected for any unwanted pests or diseases, and depending on perceived risk, may be quarantined. All tropical material is quarantined for several months before it can join the main collections in order to eliminate the chance of a damaging pest outbreak in the biomes.

At the nursery there was initially a 2MW oil fired boiler which heated the main 5000m2 glasshouse, and also the physically remote quarantine houses. In 2009 this was replaced by a fully modulating gas boiler set 0-600kw, controlled by a custom programmed Priva BMS system and heated area reduced to 2000m2. At that time, the quarantine facility was not heated from the main system, but by a very basic local control gas air heater.

In 2013 the basic gas air heater had deteriorated to such an extent in the warm moist conditions, that it was no longer economic to keep it in operation. It was replaced by a sturdy LPG fired cabinet modulating air heater (36-72kw output) and linked to the BMS system.eden 1

Michael Cutler, Horticultural Technical Engineer at Eden Project explains, “In order to control the heater we needed to run control cables all the way back to the control room and pick up the BMS wiring. To ensure the best chance of reliability of operation for this heater, we installed a good quality branded cable – 200metres of Lütze Silflex 12C, 0.75mm2, YY. The 12 cores enable: control of the relays which activate the fan and enable heat output, modulation level 0-20mA, and supply/return duct temperatures, and lock out signal.

We also used 3C, 2.5mm2, CY cable (also obtained from Lütze) to run power from the DB in at the quarantine house door to the heater and control panel.eden 3

The cables were easy to work with, the outer jacket stripped nicely without sticking to the cores, the individual cores was flexible enough to enable forming and wiring into DIN rail terminals, and the core numbers were easily identifiable. On top of that, prices were better than our hitherto existing suppliers, and customer service had been excellent. We would always consider using Lütze cables, where appropriate, for our projects or maintenance activities”.

Two does go into One! New LÜTZE Cables

New LÜTZE SUPERFLEX® cable is compatible with the digital interface HIPERFACE-DSL® by SICK®

New Lutze Superflex CableServo motor technology continues to develop further, with the aim of making the technology more user friendly. A new trend for servo motors is integration of the encoder feedback in the transfer cable. The main advantage here is the connection technology, as the connection can be established with just one cable and one connector per motor. With the separate connecting lead becoming superfluous for data transfer, not only is material saved, but a source of error is also eliminated and the installation effort is decreased. LÜTZE added a new innovation to its range and now offers a special servo cable which is compatible with the digital interface HIPERFACE-DSL® from SICK®. This cable is specially designed as a hybrid servo cable, and consists of three elements: a power supply, a separately shielded motor brake pair and a separately shielded data pair for digital data transfer.

The new LÜTZE SUPERFLEX® PLUS M© PUR HYBRID

SERVO 0.6/1 kV has been designed for consistently moving operation in C-tracks. In order to guarantee trouble-free functional integrity of the motor in moving applications, the elements in the cable must remain in their position during movement. Furthermore, electrical interferences between the power supply and the data pair must be ruled out through respective shielding. LÜTZE SUPERFLEX® PLUS M© PUR HYBRID SERVO 0.6/1 kV provides all these characteristics, and therefore represents a reliable solution for the connection of all servomotors with HIPERFACE DSL® technology. LÜTZE also provides this new cable fully assembled.

Lutze valve connector suppressors with power saving features

Lutze Valve Connector SuppressorWorking closely with Lutze, who develop and build electronic and electro-mechanical components for the Automation Industry, we would like to tell you about their new product.

The new Lutze Suppressors for valves are ready-made, pre-assembled components that meet the demands for many users in the industrial market.  The pre-assembled PUR cable meets to IP67 and due to its moulded design, can be used in harsh environments outside of the control cabinet.  A big advantage of this is a maximum of 50% reduction in energy consumption and Lutze say the purchase price will be fully recovered within a year due to this.  The suppressor is commonly used for the power supply of hydraulic valves. It can also be used in a working temperature range between -25 °C and +80 °C.

This new suppressor is configured with a protection device and LED status indication and can be used with a current range of up to 2 amps.  It has a contact distance of 18mm to meet with design A requirements.  The cable is UL and CSA certified and the actual suppressor meets standards EN 175301-803 (DIN 43 650), ISO 4400
