Impending Discontinuation of the Mitsubishi Electric Alpha2 Series
The long-anticipated announcement regarding the cessation of the Mitsubishi Electric Alpha2 series has now been officially released. Following its earlier transition to general industrial use (B2B), production of this widely appreciated series will officially cease as of 30th September 2025.
Having enjoyed significant success since their introduction, the Alpha2 controllers are admired for their ease of use and versatility. These entry-level, all-in-one application controllers, featuring built-in power supply, CPU, and I/O functions, will be transitioned to made-to-order production starting 1st October 2024. Final orders will be accepted until 30th May 2025, with the end of service (EOS) period concluding on 30th June 2032.
Features and Legacy of the Alpha2 Series
The Mitsubishi Electric Alpha2 series has been instrumental in delivering reliable solutions across a diverse array of automation applications, including lighting, air conditioning, security systems, and water management. These controllers offer exceptional adaptability and straightforward operation, making them ideal for maintenance tasks and new process control alike.
Capable of processing up to 200 function blocks within a single programme, the Alpha2 models boast unparalleled versatility. Their extensive range of functions, including timers, counters, analogue signal processing, calendar, and clock features, can be deployed repetitively across various applications.
Suggested Migration to MELSEC iQ-F and MELSEC-F Series
Mitsubishi Electric cites difficulties in sourcing dedicated ICs as the primary driver behind this discontinuation. Despite no direct replacement model being available, the company recommends migrating to their MELSEC iQ-F and MELSEC-F series as suitable alternatives.
Further details regarding the specifications of the Alpha2 series and their comparison with the MELSEC alternatives can be found in the Technical Bulletin: FAM-A-0076-A, issued in January 2024. Please click on the graphic and view the second page.
