SICK Next-Generation Photoelectric Sensors Pilot the Future of Sensing

 

 

Launched in a global release today, SICK’s next-generation W16 and W26 sensors with “BluePilot” alignment are at the helm of a streamlined portfolio of photoelectric sensors, radically-upgraded to optimise ease-of-use with complete object detection reliability.

The W16 and W26 proximity, reflex and through-beam laser sensors are manufactured at a purpose-built, fully-automated production facility in southern Germany.  They mark the culmination of a two-year, €multi-million research and development project involving extensive consultation with SICK customers worldwide.

“When we asked our customers what was most important for future development of photoelectric object detection, they put usability top of the list; they already expected our sensors to be robust, 100% reliable and always available,” says David Hannaby, SICK’s UK Product Manager for Presence Detection.

“So, we set out on a journey to achieve the best of all worlds in one family. We developed the new operating technologies our customers wanted, as well as bringing together all of SICK’s leading optical sensing capabilities to produce a consistent high-flier.”

For usability, the W16 and W26 sensors are launched with SICK’s new BluePilot assistant, which features a line of five LEDs mounted on top of the sensor for quick, easy and accurate alignment of the light spot even over long distances.  The BluePilot combines a potentiometer and teach-in button to simplify set up, range assessment and application mode selection, and provides a real-time on-sensor status display.

Manufactured in new robotic production facility to ensure consistent plug-and-play alignment of every device, SICK W16 and W26 sensors bring together the best of SICK’s optical sensing technologies to meet any detection challenge:

 

  • SICK’s patented Twin-Eye technology achieves reliable detection for reflective materials such as films, foils, contrast-rich or uneven surfaces. The Twin-Eye’s unique second receiving channel builds in high process stability reducing the risk of false or missed signals due to deflections of the light beam.
  • SICK has incorporated LineSpot linear optics to provide highly-reliable detection where the object has mesh, perforations, integral gaps or breaks.
  • SICK ClearSens optical filter technology makes light work of semi-transparent and transparent objects, such as bottles and plastic trays. Intuitive mode selection on the device make it easy to set up the sensor according to the characteristics of object to be detected.
  • With SICK’s revolutionary OptoFilter technology onboard, the sensors are immune to interference from unwanted light sources and reflections, including LED lighting, hi-viz safety workwear or reflections from machinery.
  • SICK’s AutoAdapt function means if the reflector or the front screen of the sensor becomes contaminated, the photoelectric sensor automatically adjusts its switching thresholds for reliable detection.

 

An industry-first in-built Bluetooth option allows easy monitoring and advanced commissioning from smart phones or tablets.Smart IO-Link two-way communication is standard on all devices to enable easy set up and parameter cloning of replacement sensors, addressability and diagnostic functions, as well as opportunity to incorporate sensor-level smart tasks such as counting and time measurement.

Every W16 and W26 comes in a robust Vistal housing to withstand all chemical, thermal and mechanical environmental conditions as well shocks and vibrations.  The casing is laser-etched with all product identification so that the sensor remains easily identifiable even after years of service.  A 2D barcode enables easy identification and access to product manuals via mobile phone.

Lutze VSD Cables

 

 

Have you ever thought about the effects of using just standard cabling for your VSD applications?

Cables are often an afterthought in the planning process but represents actually a very important component in the whole application.

Variable Frequency Drive applications can cause unique electrical issues that are unlike other standard power transmission in machine applications. There are higher demands on the cable connecting the motor to the drive.  Standard multi-conductor cables rated for 500V will most likely not meet the requirements of VSD applications, and can cause operating malfunctions and early failures.

New – Mitsubishi FR-A800 Frequency Inverter

New from Mitsubishi is the FR-A800 Frequency Inverter which has been designed for unparalleled drive precision, speed control, simple start-up, and versatility.  The Mitsubishi FR-A800 is a new generation of drive technology.

Mitsubishi’s FR-A800 has some outstanding features which include the integrated high level PLC, USB port for programming and parameter copying, an-easy to-read control panel, optimum power usage and energy saving functions, improved system safety, three expansion slots for a range of option and supported network card.

The FR-A800 Series is fully backwards compatible with the FR-A700 series and its parameters can be easily copied by FR Configurator2. In order to match the former machine response time, the input/output signals of the FR-A800 can be delayed.

The FR-A800 series has some powerful features and intelligent functions which include a two channel emergency stop for safe shutdown. This ensures safe operation in compliance with the European Machinery Directive without installation of another contactor. The FR-A800 thus conforms to the EN ISO13849-1/PLd cat. 3, EN 61508 and EN 61800-5-2 SIL2 standards.

The operation panel with the one touch Digital Dial allows direct access to all important parameters. The FR-A800 series also allows the connection of a Mitsubishi Electric graphical operation terminal (GOT). Communication parameters for the HMI connection are automatically set as a batch.

The FR-A800 has a built in EMC filter which ensures full compliance with European EMC Directive standards (EN 61800-3 2nd environment category C3), so separate certification is not required for the drive.  To suit your application, take advantage of the energy saving function, the impressive savings can be displayed on the energy monitor.  With an estimated lifespan of 10 years, the cooling fans and built in capacitors can be further extended by using the ON/OFF control function

The FR-A800 can be controlled and monitored by a controller via network.  Communication options are available for the major network protocols such as CC-Link IE Field, CC-Link, Profibus DP/DPV1, Profinet/Ether- Net IP/EtherCat (to be released soon) and SSCNETIII/H as well as DeviceNet™ and LONWORKS.  RS485 communication (Mitsubishi Electric drive protocol, Modbus-RTU protocol) is supported as standard.

Mitsubishi FR-A800:-

  • High Speed Response: With a speed response of 50Hz, A800 to respond to a change in motor load. A800 reacts to a speed signal much faster too – between 2 to 3 ms as opposed to 5 to 20 ms with A700.
  • Wide Speed Range: 200:1 speed range open loop, 1500:1 closed loop speed range.
  • Extended Maximum Speed: A standard A800 VFD can drive high speed motors at up to 590Hz, compared to the A700’s 400Hz.
  • IPM Motor Control: Standard A800 VFDs can drive the new generation IPM (Internal Permanent Magnet) motors, such as the Marathon ‘SyMAX’ series.
  • Safety Stop: A800 is a SAFETY drive. “STO” capability enables SIL2 / PLd category emergency stops.
  • Compatible with USB stick: VFD settings can be easily uploaded or downloaded and ‘black box’ operating data at the time of a drive trip can be copied for diagnosis using the FR-Configurator software.
  • GOT interface: Automatic connectivity to GOT 2000 series GOTs without the need to change any parameters.
  • Improved PLC: A800 has a new internal PLC based around the Mitsubishi ‘L series’ processor. Instructions in the form of ‘Function Blocks’ can now be used.
  • Conformal Coating: All A800 VFDs have Conformal Coated boards as standard.

ILME UK Industrial Plugs and Sockets

Due to the wide range of Ilme enclosures of the FM, FC, TM, QM and BK series (types BC…) the flush-mounting plugs and socket outlets can be assembled rapidly in a group configuration. These construction features enable Ilme plugs and socket outlets to be suitable for use in a lot of demanding applications such as:-

  • Mechanical Industry
  • Shipbuilding
  • Chemical and petrochemica
  • Services sector
  • Building industry
  • Agricultural and livestock breeding sector

When selecting the correct type of plugs and socket-outlets, you must consider the following parameters:-

  • The rated current of the equipment to be power supplied via the plug and socket
  • The rated voltage of the power supply and the type of distribution (single or 3 phase, with or without the neutral conductor)  to determine the number of poles for the hour position.  The 1h (hour position) is available for all those voltages or voltage ranges of >50V and for frequencies not covered by the standards.
  • Fixed or mobile installation to determine the construction type of the plug and socket.  (flush mounting straight or inclined, wall, mobile, mobile angled).
  • The location of the installation to determine the level of protection required, IP44 or IP67.  In some areas the installation standard requires a very low voltage so check that too.

The following types of plug and socket outlets are available:-

  • Wall mounting plugs and socket outlets, low and extra low voltage.
  • Plug and socket outlets and straight flush mounting sockets, low and extra low voltage.
  • Plugs and inclined flush mounting socket outlets, low voltage.
  • Straight plugs and couplers, low and extra low voltage.
  • Angled plugs, low voltage.
  • 5 pole plugs with phase inverter, low voltage, SIP type.
  • 5 pole single block plugs and socket outlets, low voltage, PEM type for automated cabling.

New – Lutze Electronic Housing

LÜTZE has introduced a new electronic housing – the LCOS, which is an intelligent housing solution that can be individually adapted to the requirements of the control cabinet.LCOS

The LCOS from LÜTZE is an IP20 electronic housing system that can be used for both modular housings or as a stand-alone solution, it can also be expanded into a complete modular I/O system via the toll-free connection of data or energy modules. The LCOS’ electronic housing is based on a device carrier that holds the separate housings or the plug-in function units. The patented four-wire bus allows the field side to be supplied with up to 16A of nominal current per conductor. This facilitates the realisation of three-phase functions with an operating voltage of 500V or also 24V applications with a current load of DC 64A. The LÜTZE electronic housing LCOS has UL-approval and can therefore be used worldwide. The temperature application range lies between -40° C and +85° C. On the basis of the various approvals and fire tests, such as V-0, NFF I2 and NFF F2, the LCOS housing is also suitable for use in rough ambient conditions.

Various models allow individual solutions.

If the LCOS housing system is used in a modular way, plug-in data or power modules with supply options supply power to the system and allow the creation of a data and power bus. The modules are interchangeable so that four results are possible: 2x data; 2x power, 1x power/data, 1x data/power. A further advantage: The connection between the modules does not need to be wired, it is connected via insulated bridges. The LCOS function housing is available in four models: Either as a housing that is 22.5 mm or 35 mm wide, or alternatively with or without side terminals. In combination with the supply the construction width is 57.5 or 70 mm. The LCOS housing is equipped with three standard markers so that a total of 18 characters can be used for labelling purposes. As an additional service, LÜTZE supplies both customised front plates and also individual colours to implement the Corporate Identity of the device manufacturer. Thanks to 64 freely selectable codes, it is impossible to connect the modules incorrectly. They are connected directly to the carrier rail via PE contacts. Regardless of the housing configuration, the LCOS system has 42 connection points. The data bus is equipped for future purposes with 12 data contacts to allow the individual design of the device communication system e.g. the connection of the power modules or bus-capable load monitoring modules.
